Sundance 2015, trionfa Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, fa discutere il documentario su Scientology

Arrivano i verdetti del Sundance Film Festival 2015, la manifestazione ideata da Robert Redford, al solito provvida di opere di grande interesse. Come da pronostico, la dramedy Me and Earl and the Dying Girl di Alfonso Gomez-Rejon si è accaparrato i due premi più importanti nella sezione principale US Dramatic (riservata ai film narrativi americani): il Gran premio della giuria e il premio del pubblico. Non a caso, i diritti di distribuzione sono stati accesamente contesi, infine aggiudicati alla Fox Searchlight.

Tra i film dal resto del mondo, la posta viene spartita: la giuria ha scelto il western britannico Slow west di John Maclean con Michael Fassbender nei panni di un misterioso viaggiatore negli Stati Uniti di fine '800, che diventa mentore d'un giovane aristocratico scozzese; il pubblico ha insignito l'indiano Umrika di Prashant Nair, sulla ricerca del fratello da parte di un giovane indiano negli Stati Uniti.

Per la regia, nella sezione Us Dramatic il premio è andato Robert Eggers per The Witch, mentre la lituana, di stanza a Parigi, Alanté Kavaïté ha vinto nella sezione World Dramatic con The Summer of Sangaile, vicenda di una minorenne che scopre la propria passione per l'acrobazia aerea. [MORE]

Sulla qualità dei film in programmazione, alta anche in questa edizione, parla chiaro anche il precedente di Whiplash di Damien Chazelle (in uscita il 21 febbraio), vincitore l'anno scorso ed in corsa agli Oscar 2015 con 5 nomination, tra cui quella ben accreditata a J.K. Simmons per il ruolo di attore non protagonista. Se Me and Earl and the Dying Girl si appresta a ripercorrere le orme del fortunato predecessore nell'albo della kermesse, è certo che almeno altri due film si sono guadagnati un posto sotto i riflettori. Il documentario Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief di Alex Gibney è passato fuori concorso, ma ha suscitato vibranti polemiche per la propria circostanziata denuncia dell'organizzazione riconosciuta come credo religioso. Sarà trasmessa dalla HBO negli Stati Uniti il 16 marzo ed è già su molti giornali. The Wolfpack di Crystal Moselle (Gran premio della giuria) ricostruisce invece la vicenda di sette teenager, i fratelli Angulo, cresciuti nel lower East Side di Manhattan reclusi in casa dai genitori.
